Jon Nolan talks concluding the Batman trilogy
With The Dark Knight Rises finally in theaters, Christopher Nolan has, at long last, wrapped up his epic take on the Caped Crusader mythology – a journey that began seven years ago with Batman Begins. Now, Jonathan Nolan – Christopher’s brother and the co-writer of many of his films, including The Dark Knight and its sequel – has spoken up about what it was like trying to conclude their take on the huge franchise. “Different writers and comic book artists have always tried to imagine how this ends,” he told Screen Rant. “I read all of those. Chris read some. But he was really proceeding from his place with living with this character for ten years now and he’s trying to imagine what is the fitting ending for our take on this character.” The writer, however, remains adamant that his older brother always had an idea of where he wanted to take the story in the end. “Chris always had a sense of where we wanted to go,” insisted the younger Nolan sibling, “and you get to a fundamental moment where, if it’s all working, a kind of gravity, where if you add to it, it then supports the underlying idea. I’m very happy with the ending and I certainly hope audiences are.”
