The Dark Knight Rises to break records at IMAX
When The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters on July 20, it will be more than just a highly anticipated action sequel, it will also reportedly be a record-breaking feature. The final film in the Batman trilogy is expected to include over an hour of IMAX footage, the first time a Hollywood film has ever featured that much footage. The blockbuster will play on IMAX screens at more than 100 locations across Canada and the United States. While the company’s summer schedule includes major popcorn flicks like The Amazing Spider-Man, Men in Black 3 and Prometheus, The Dark Knight Rises is the only film on the slate that was filmed with an IMAX camera. The others were converted afterwards using IMAX technology.
Director Christopher Nolan has long been a supporter of the IMAX experience. When he signed on to direct The Dark Knight in 2008, his deal with Warner Brothers stipulated he film the movie with IMAX cameras. The final cut featured 40 minutes of footage.
