The Avengers won’t be the only crime fighters lighting up screens on May 4th. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that the third and final trailer for the highly anticipated Batman sequel, The Dark Knight Rises, will premiere before screenings of the superhero blockbuster, The Avengers. The announcement could cause backlash against comic book die-hards, as The Avengers is apart of the Marvel franchise, sworn enemies to Batman’s DC Comics. The trailer will debut in front of both 3D and 2D showings of the action flick as well as IMAX screenings. This isn’t the first time Warner Brothers has capitalized on the success of the rival franchise. In 2008, the trailer for The Dark Knight was screened before Marvel’s Iron Man. When The Dark Knight premiered, it broke the record for largest opening weekend at the box office, only being topped by last year’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. The Dark Knight Rises features Christian Bale as the caped crusader. It swings into theaters on July 20th.
