An MTV writer has made clear that his comment regarding the new Batman movie being four hours long was just a joke. In a piece posted on the MTV news site, writer Kevin Sullivan mentioned that Christopher Nolan showed a rough cut of the third film from the Batman trilogy for the executives at Warner Brothers. The comment, which was intended to be humorous, described the rough edit as a four-hour long film.

Shortly after the story was posted, a rumor spread across the Internet that the film was in fact four hours. The backlash has led the author of the piece to clarify his comment on Twitter. “Just to clear some confusion: I have no idea how long “The Dark Knight Rises” rough cut is. “’4 hours’ was a joke taken too literally,” said Sullivan. While both of Nolan’s previous Batman installments had long run times — Batman Begins ran for two hours and 20 minutes while The Dark Knight was two hours and 32 minutes – a four-hour Batman movie seems unlikely.
